Fall in love with your career again

I spoke to a lady recently who was really having to jump through hoops to deliver something another person, in another business, would simply click a button to make live. Recruited as a Marketing Manager, before she can press go on any initiative she has to have the approval of around 14 interested parties! Can you believe that, 14!

You may or may not be surprised to hear she works in the charitable sector and as such experiences different limitations/boundaries in her day to day role compared to the average Marketing Manager.

However it got me thinking. She’s not the 1st person to have the design of the job get in the way of her fulfilling her role. And when the business gets frustrated at the lack of results she is delivering, who will it assume is accountable? The person who hasn’t delivered or the blocks that hindered the delivery?

If you’re leading a team you have to wonder how long you can expect the average employee to put up with the job frustrating their efforts at delivering results, because what will the outcome be? Eventually, they’ll leave. The business will have to recruit once again (costing more money and time), you still won’t get the results you’re looking for, and no doubt the next new recruit will leave too because the job is still getting in the way of them doing what they have been brought in to do. And the cycle goes on.

And if you’re leading this team with the same frustrating result occurring, guess who that reflects on?

Just because something has always been done a particular way doesn’t mean it’s the right way.

If you’re sick of being blocked and would like to break the cycle, finding a new way to do things in your job, or to help your team to find a new way then get in touch.

My job is to help you find flow in your work and to reduce the friction, so you can be the leader you are meant to be.
